 EMPOWER DRIVERS

NOT PUNISH THEM

WE MOVE CANADA. RESPECT OUR INDEPENDENCE.

Independent drivers are the backbone of our supply chain, small business owners/operators who work hard, pay taxes, and keep this country moving. It is time to stop blaming drivers and start listening to them.

THE REAL DRIVER IMPACT

Independent drivers are not part of a scheme, they are skilled professionals and entrepreneurs who keep Canada’s economy moving.

Incorporated drivers choose independence because it gives them freedom, flexibility, and dignity.

  • They can set their own schedules and are not bound to one company

  • Enjoy freedom of choice in who I work with, ensuring flexibility, independence, and income stability.

  • Many immigrant drivers have families overseas: incorporation allows them to take longer visits home without losing income opportunities.

  • They are their own bosses, entrepreneurs who make smart choices, start small, and grow fast.

  • Independence means better safety, they can refuse unsafe or over-demanding runs.

Independent drivers are not hurting Canada, they are helping it.

They pay taxes, support local economies, and provide the flexibility that keeps goods moving across the country.

“Let’s respect and empower those who choose independence, not punish them for building better futures for their families.”

THE REAL STORY: FREEDOM, NOT EXPLOITATION

Some industry groups are pushing a false narrative, blaming independent drivers instead of addressing the real problems in trucking. Independent drivers are not victims or cheats, we are proud Canadians and small business owners who believe in fair work, fair pay, and fair competition.

If a few bad actors misuse the system, hold them accountable, but don’t punish thousands of hardworking, tax-paying drivers. Big carriers want to label independence as “exploitation” because it threatens their control. Incorporation gives drivers choice, flexibility, and dignity the same freedoms enjoyed by IT consultants, construction contractors, and other professionals.

“We drive Canada - not big Companies who want to control us.”
“Respect independence. Respect freedom. Respect Competition, Respect those who drive Canada forward.”

WHAT HAS BEEN DONE, AND WHAT STILL NEEDS TO BE UNDERSTOOD

For years, governments and associations have talked about drivers, not with them. Instead of listening to real people behind the wheel, they have relied on audits and assumptions that miss the truth.

We agree, enforcement is needed against fraud and exploitation. But it must target the offenders, not honest incorporated drivers.

If the government truly wants to protect drivers and strengthen supply chains, it must:

  • Engage directly with independent, owner operators, drivers from diverse backgrounds.

  • Recognize incorporation as a legal, professional choice.

  • Focus on training, safety, and fair contracts, not crackdowns.

  • Support diversity and inclusion in a workforce that keeps Canada moving.

“We are not hiding in the underground economy, we are on the highways every day.”

TAKING ACTION – EMPOWERING DRIVERS, STRENGTHENING CANADA

Real progress in trucking means empowering drivers, not dividing them.
We propose a National Empower Drivers Action Plan built on fairness, safety, and opportunity:

RECOGNIZE INDEPENDENT DRIVERS AS ENTREPRENEURS

Treat trucking like any other profession where incorporation is legal and respected.

ENGAGE DIRECTLY WITH DRIVERS

Create a formal driver consultation council that includes drivers from diverse backgrounds, small fleet owners, and independent contractors,  not just industry lobby groups.

FOCUS ENFORCEMENT ON REAL OFFENDERS

Crack down on carriers or brokers who exploit drivers, falsify records, or operate outside the law, not on honest, compliant small operators.

INVEST IN SAFETY AND TRAINING

Modernize training, fix unsafe highways, and add safe rest stops nationwide.

PROMOTE DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION

Address racism and discrimination in the industry, Celebrate drivers from diverse backgrounds as nation-builders and are respected as vital contributors, not targeted as scapegoats.

ENCOURAGE FAIR CONTRACTS AND COMPETITON

Empower drivers to negotiate fair rates and terms, and ensure that all companies, big or small, operate on a level playing field.

 JOIN THE MOVEMENT

Drivers, owner-operators, small fleets, your voice matters.
Let’s build a fair, safe, and independent future for trucking in Canada.
